Trying Gouache

  With a trip to California coming up this summer, I decided to take gouache instead of oils or watercolors. Gouache has several advantages for travel: it’s easy to clean up, it can be painted on paper, and it packs into a very small space. Plus, I love the beautiful opaque finish it provides.

Three Months with Oil Paint

  Trying oils had been on my mind for a couple of years. Many of my painter friends work in oils, and I’ve painted alongside them on numerous plein air outings. The depth and richness that oil paintings can achieve was a real attraction.

Reflections on the Strada Challenge

  This was the thrid straight year I've participated in the September Strada Challenge, a bi-annual 30-day event in which artists create one piece of artwork from life - not from a photography - each day and share it on social media. As an added incentive, participants are entered into a drawing to win a Strada easel.
